From the brink of Agony comes Victory
Astros had a comeback victory tonight. Their first win of the season. There were 2 outs, nobody on, and a 3-2 count. One pitch and the agony of defeat sets in. Then, a walk. A flicker of hope. And anticipation builds. Hope and desperation mesh together to form some kind of cosmic precision. And, then everything goes right. We tie the game, and then get a 3-run homerun from Berkman and the win. Thus, this blog is inspired by the Astros.
From the brink of Agony comes Victory.
I wanted to delve deeper into this phenomenom. We as human beings hold something very precious. Hope. No matter where this hope is channeled, it is there. We are hot-wired with it. We cannot live without it. We may discount it, but it is still there.
My hope tonight was for the Astros to win their first game. And, even with 2 outs in the 9th inning, I was still hoping for the miraculous comeback. Well, we won!!! This is an incredible feeling. To somebody else, it may seem lame, or mundane, that I was so excited about this victory. However, after analyzing it, I found that my excitement came from recognizing the payoff of hope.
We hope for so many things and get let down so many times, but those times when things we hope for come true, we savor every ounce of it. It could be as simple as hoping for green lights all the way home, or an Astros victory. You cannot tell me that when something you hope for comes true, it is not sweet.
So, keep hoping and dreaming, because miracles will keep trudging their way through the agony.
